William Lester Dodds
William Lester Dodds, age 89, of Toronto, Ohio passed away Aug. 5, 2013, in Weirton Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1924, in Richmond, the son of the late John L. and Mary Montgomery Dodds.
He was a proud WWII Navy Veteran having served on the USS Irwin as the ship’s signal man being a Plankowner (the ship’s original crew).
Bill was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring, he became a licensed auctioneer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto where he served on several church committees. He was a member of the Toronto American Legion and a 50 year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers having served as local president and a term as regional president for northeast Ohio. Bill was a former Island Creek Cemetery Board Member and former Chairman of the Toronto Civil Service Commission.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Starr Dodds, who passed away Jan. 29, 2013; one brother, Harry Dodds; and two sisters Betty Holmes and Kathleen Teaff.
He is survived his son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Melanie Dodds of Carrollton; two grandsons, Andrew (Holly) Dodd s of Amsterdam and Aaron Dodds of Carrollton; and a sister, Marjorie Hill of Anaheim, CA.
Visitation will be held Aug. 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 in the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Funeral services will be held Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto where full Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post #86 and the Carrollton VFW.
