Donald G. Powelson

A graveside service for Donald G. Powelson, 88 of Newark, will be held Friday, July 3, 2009, at 12 p.m. (noon) at Simmons Ridge Cemetery in Jefferson County, OH.

Born Jan. 28, 1921, in Pineyfork, he was a son of the late Willard Brady and Jessie Edna (Elliott) Powelson. He passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Flint Ridge Nursing Home in Newark.

Prior to retirement, he was a shear operator with the Farr Company for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include his sons and daughters, Terry (Carolyn) Powelson of Newark, Shirley Brigham of Carrollton, Donnie (Maxine) Powelson of Coshocton, Catherine (Jack) Havenstein of Waynesburg, Gary Bodkin of Long Beach, CA, and Lester (Jackie) Bodkin of Carson, CA; brother, Warren Powelson of Elyria; two sisters, Wilma Marteney of Beloit and Marge Berardinelli of Bergholz, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pernie Powelson in 1997; daughter, Peggy Hammond; stepson, Paul Bodkin; one brother and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Friends may call Thursday from 2-6 p.m. at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.  Those unable to attend may sign the online guest book at www.crissschoedinger.com.
