Jesse E. Slentz
Jesse E. Slentz 87, of Monroe Ave. Carrollton, died Thursday evening, June 2, 2011, in his home following a brief illness.
Born March 24, 1924, in Jewett, he was a son of the late William and Estella Guthrie Slentz.
Jesse worked as a butcher retiring from Kishman's IGA in Carrollton. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, a member of New Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, Carrollton VFW. Although he did not start until he was 53 years old, he was an avid golfer and had achieved two hole-in-one shots at Carroll Meadows. He was a part of Carrollton McDonald's coffee group.
Jesse is survived by his wife, the former Lucille Hite Harris of the home; two daughters, Janene (Mark) LeBeau of Alliance, and Barb (Gene) Roudebush of Carrollton; two stepsons, Gary Harris of Carrollton and Larry Harris of Winston Salem, NC; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his former wife, Donna Buckman of Carrollton; and two sisters, Ruth Wakefield of Oceanside, CA, and Doris Eisenhut of Canton.
He was preceded in death by former wife, Mary Jane Gotschall; a son, Steven Slentz; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held June 6 in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery in Carrollton with full military honors.
Memorial donations in Jesse' name may be made to either the American Cancer Association or Community Hospice, Trump Rd., Carrollton.
