Goldie Betz Smith Thornhill
Goldie Betz Smith Thornhill, 84, of St. Stephen, SC, a retired meat wrapper at the St. Stephen IGA, died Friday, May 13, 2011, in a Ravenna, OH, hospital after an extended illness.
Born June 13, 1926, in Paris, OH, she was a daughter of Orlan Betz and Laura Taylor Betz.
She was a graduate of Scio High School class of 1944 and a member of First Baptist Church, St. Stephen.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Fisher and her husband, Terry, of Alvin and Donna Gaul and her husband, Richard, of Ravenna, OH; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith of Irwin, TN; nine grandchildren, Haley (Wesley) Rabon of Bonneau, Timothy Fisher of Alvin, Deana Moos of Wichita, KS, John (Beth) Fisher of Wake Forest, NC, Christopher (Emily) Gaul of Akron, OH, Mark (Tamara) Gaul of Alliance, OH, Kalli Adkins of St. Stephen, Laura (Jamie) Poole of Russellville, and Maegan Smith of Irwin, TN; 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Thornhill was the widow of John H. Smith and Jake J. Thornhill, Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Martin L. Smith; two great grandsons, John Ray Fisher and Jackson Wadford; a sister, Grace Betz; and two brothers, Vincent and Kenneth Betz.
Her funeral was held May 18, 2011, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner with Rev. Jake Thornhill, Jr. officiated. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
