Mary Leggett

Mary LeggettMary Leggett, age 91, a former Sherrodsville resident, died early Sunday morning, May 5, 2013, in Carroll Healthcare Center at Carrollton.

Born June 2, 1921, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Bridget Marr Scott.

On April 25, 1943, she married Dale G. Leggett, who preceded her in death on June 12, 2004.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

She was primarily a homemaker for most of her life.  Born in Canada, she was a naturalized citizen of the United States. She was a longtime active and faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville, including United Methodist Women and Brighten the Corner Sunday school class of the church. She was a 60-plus year member and former officer of the Pythian Sisters Carroll Temple #459 of Sherrodsville, and a longtime member of Atwood Ladies Golf League. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Sherrodsville High School and was named class salutatorian. Mary was a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Greg (Jane) Galigher of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Bill (Glenda) Sensel of Bowerston, Jim (Esther) Leggett of Orrville, and Brian (Kim) Leggett of North Canton; nine grandchildren, Bill, Ed, and Jason Galigher, Jeff and Chad Leggett, Rob and Dan Sensel, and Courtney and Mackenzie Leggett, and 16 great grandchildren, Meagan, Adam, Jarrett, Samantha, Olivia, Taylor, Gaige, and Mylie Galigher, Bobbie, Jillian, and Aubrey Sensel, and Elizabeth, Morgan, Cameron, Isaac, and Kennedy Leggett.

Funeral services will be conducted May 10 at 11 a.m. in Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville with Rev. Ean Green officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens next to her husband. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, P. O.
