Shirley J. Mitchel

Shirley J. Mitchell, age 72, of 6070 Crane Road S.W., SherrodsvilleShirley J. Mitchell, age 72, of 6070 Crane Road S.W., Sherrodsville, OH., died Monday afternoon, Feb. 9, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover.

She retired as the assistant manager of the former Society Bank at Sherrodsville after more than 20 years of service. Prior to her career at the bank, she had been an employee of the former Scio Pottery and TRW at Minerva.

She was born Nov. 1, 1936, on the Hadorn Farm on Cutler Road in Sherrodsville and was the daughter of the late Fred John and Anna Minor Hadorn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Albert  "Ollie" Mitchell and a nephew James Mitchell.

She and her husband Ronald I.  "Mitch" Mitchell, whom she married Oct. 6, 1966, own and operate M & M Farm at Sherrodsville where they breed, raise, and sell registered Quarter Horses.  Mitch always credited her for being the "backbone" of the operation.  Shirley was known as an extraordinary cook and enjoyed reading in her quiet moments.  She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Paul  (Luana) Hadorn of Brecksville and Daniel J. (Daniele) Hadorn of Solon.;  nieces and nephews, Mrs. Robert (Leslie) Horseman of Irving, TX, Mrs. James (Maureen) Baxter of Waxahachie, TX,  Mrs. Dan (Laura) Renicker of Sherrodsville,  Amanda Mitchell of Bowerston, Mrs. Mike (Jennifer) Booth and  Dennis (Alyssa) Mitchell, both of Sherrodsville,  Jason P. Hadorn of Virginia,  Jennifer Hadorn of Athens,   Mrs. Mark (Heidi) Petre of Centerville,  and  Vincent Hadorn of Columbus, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Ernest of Irving, TX,  Alice Mitchell of New Philadelphia, and Diane Mitchell Fowler of Sherrodsville and a brother-in-law, Steve Mitchell of Tonawanda, NY.,  and a number of great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services in the funeral home.  Following the committal service, a reception will be held in the Calvary United Methodist Church Social Hall.
