Sarah Virginia "Ginny" Smith

Sarah Virginia "Ginny" Smith, 88, of Thomas Ave., Carrollton, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2010, in Carroll Healthcare Center following an extended illness.

Born March 28, 1922, in Calhoun, GA, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Elva Blalock McAfee. 

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carrollton and United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, George E.M. "Bud" Smith, whom she married June 8, 1939; a son, H. Ronald Smith of Carrollton; a brother, Raymond (Sue) McAfee of Carrollton; three granddaughters, Rhonda Atkinson, Lisa Baker and Mindy Worth; a niece, Erin Van Fossen of New Philadelphia and a nephew, Sean R.H. Smith of Carrollton.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Dixie Smith; a granddaughter, Andrea Smith and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, S. Lisbon St., Carrollton, with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating.  Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home at Carrollton and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
