Thomas Lloyd

Thomas LloydThomas Lloyd, age 63, died peacefully in his Leesville home Friday evening, Nov. 18, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Jan. 13, 1948, in West Bend, WI, he was a son to the late Dr. Kenneth E. and Althea Kittel Lloyd.

He was a graduate of Conotton Valley High School and The Ohio State University. He trained horses and gave riding lessons in Granville, OH, and Virginia for several years after graduation. In 1979, he moved back to the family dairy farm in Leesville and soon met his wife Laurie. After their marriage Aug. 31, 1980, they ran a holstein dairy operation together until 1988. In 1988, they began their dried flower operation in which they grew and sold flowers at craft shows throughout the area for over 20 years. They ran Lloyd's Tea Room and Bed and Breakfast at their farm for several years in the 1990's and presently run a greenhouse and produce business. Tom taught high school science at Strasburg High and Jefferson County Vocational School along with substitute teaching and bus driving at many area schools.

He was an active member of Ohio Farm Bureau, presently serving as vice president of the Carroll County board. He attended First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia where he participated in his favorite past-time of singing in the chancel choir, men's chorus, and bell choir. In his earlier days he was a member of the Ohio Youth Choir which traveled throughout Europe. He loved to act in the theatre and participated in several Little Theatre musicals.  He was particularly well-known for his rendition of both Lil' Abner and Judd in Oklahoma. He loved the outdoors and gardening and could always be seen in the fields of the family farm. He looked forward to going to sell at Roger's Market every year where he greeted his many friends and customers.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Nash Lloyd; three sons, Jonathon (Leslie) Lloyd of Granville, OH, and Aaron and Morgan Lloyd of Leesville; a daughter, Sarah (Todd) Edmonds of Canal Fulton; a stepdaughter, Kathy Lloyd of Columbus; five grandchildren, Astarra, Trenton, J.J., Poppy Ann, and Cole; three brothers, Larry (Andrea) Lloyd of Dover, Sam (Karen) Lloyd of Bolivar, and Bill (Peggy) Lloyd of Leesville; many nieces and nephews throughout the area; his mother and father-in-law, Wendell and Virginia Nash of Leesville;  brother-in-laws, Rick Nash of Greensville, SC., and  Randy Nash and Dennis (Liz) Nash, both of Canton; ,and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Lloyd..

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. in Leesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating. Calling hours will be held Nov. 25 from 4- 8 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville and one hour prior to services Saturday in the church. Cremation has taken place and Tom will be buried near his home in Leesville Cemetery at a later date.
