John Hamilton Thompson
John Hamilton Thompson, age 79, of Carrollton, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Aultman Hospital.
Born Nov. 30, 1932, in Carrollton, he was a son of Wilber and Nellie (Francis) Thompson.
He was a welder by trade with the former Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Company in Canton. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW #3302, and was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War serving 23 1/2 years.
His military career took him to many countries throughout Europe and Asia where he learned and spoke six different languages. During that time, he developed a love of photography, specifically that of European architecture. Later he would learn to develop and print his photos. While in Korea, he would meet and later marry Yi Chin Sun "Lee." He took great pride in introducing her to American culture and making a comfortable living together with their dogs, Cindy and Brown.
Since relocating to the North Canton area nearly five years ago, John met and made friends with some special caregivers, Peg Nichols and Danelle Bennett. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Danbury in North Canton for their kind, caring ways and great food.
He is survived by a son, Timothy R. Thompson; two daughters, Brenda L. Thompson and Theresa M. Merrill; nine grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yi Chin Sun "Lee" whom he married Feb. 2, 1973, and who passed away Feb. 17, 2008; Frances J. Browning, Robert L. Thompson, James R. Thompson, and Margaret A. Lawther.
Funeral services will be held Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. in Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the funeral service in the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the VFW, DAV, and American Legion.
