Marcia Whitaker Simmons, R.N., M.S.N.

Marcia Whitaker Simmons, R. N., M. S. N., 81, of Carrollton Ohio, passed away Friday night at Aultman Hospital after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

She was born April 4, 1928

Marcia Whitaker Simmons, R.N., M.S.N.She was the only child of Alanson John and Mabel (Nee) Bridget Whitaker who preceded her in death.

She received her master's degree in the Science of Nursing from Case Western Reserve University.  Marcia lived in Poland, Ohio, and was working in Youngstown, Ohio, when she met and married H. William (Bill) Simmons, Jr. of Carrollton, Ohio.  Afterwards they moved to Texas where she worked at the University of Texas in Galveston.  She was also a professor of Psychiatric graduate students at Akron University of Ohio and Baylor University in Dallas.

She and Bill retired and moved back to Carrollton in 1994.  She became a member of Carrollton's Business Women's Organization, Carroll County Nurses Association and the Garden Club.  She volunteered in the bookstore at the Algonquin Mill.

Marcia is survived by stepson, Steve Simmons of Norton, Ohio and stepdaughter, Sidney Autumn Simmons of Carrollton, Ohio; grandchildren, Bonnie (Brian) Stewart, of Carrollton, Ohio, Stephen Simmons of Malvern, Ohio, and Lacie Simmons of Columbus, Ohio; great grandchildren, Bradley, Stormy and Summer Stewart and Juliaunte Simmons.

Per Marcia's request, she will be cremated and buried with her parents in West Middlesex, PA.  She also requested no public service so anyone wishing to express condolences may do so online at Ssimcon@aol.com.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Carroll County, 1040 Trump Rd, Carrollton, OH, 44615 or the Carroll County Historical Society, Autumn Road, Carrollton, OH, 44615.
