Dean H. Shepherd

Dean H. Shepherd, 84, of Bergholz, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Carroll Golden Age Retreat following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Amsterdam, he was a son of the late Franklin and Myrtle Irene (White) Shepherd. 

Dean retired from Titanium Metals in Toronto and served in Germany with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a longtime member of Amsterdam VFW Post 232 and Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years as secretary/treasurer and was founder of the Fire Department Bingo.

Dean's greatest hobby was being Grandpa to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, George Shepherd and wife, Mary of Bergholz; a daughter, Anna Marie and her husband, Russ Kleiner of East Springfield;

grandchildren, Dean Wiley, Josh Kleiner, Chelsey Justine Byron, Jason Keffer, Tara Givens and Nathaniel Shepherd; great-grandchildren, Rilee and Drake Givens; his brother, Ray Shepherd and wife, Peggy of Amsterdam; and two sisters, Audrey Kapelewski and Marion Abel, both of Carrollton.

Funeral services will be held at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 287 Second St. Bergholz, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Miller officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. until time of funeral. Burial will follow in Harlem Springs Cemetery with full military honors.
