Joseph Kapp, age 94 of Mechanicstown died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, in the Pines in Canton.
Born April 7, 1918, in Naomi, PA, he was a son of Andrew and Anna (Machuzak) Cap.
He retired from the Timken Company in 1970 and he and his wife Gertude owned and operated Kapp’s Restaurant in Canton for 25 years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII having served in the 82nd Airborne. He is a former Board member of North Eastern Ohio Restaurant Association. He loved living on his farm, his family and his collie dogs.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Kapp-Salupo of Cambridge; son, Frank Henry of Massillon; sister, Mildred Cap of Canton; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude “Trudy” (Leyda) Kapp who died in 2002;son-in-law, Samuel Salupo; son, Dixon Henry; four sisters, Marian Bellinski, Helen Lowry, Anna Smith and Antoinette Colegrove;and a brother, Michael.
Following cremation, a private family memorial service will be held in Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Virginia Birks officiating.
