Andrew Gubanez, 76, of Bergholz died July 18, 2009, in the Veteran's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born Jan. 11, 1933, in Jefferson County, he was a son of the late George and Mary Bandurich Gubanez.
He retired in 1970 from farming and coal mining, last working at Sun Coal. He was a Korean War veteran, enlisting Oct. 10, 1949 and being honorably discharged Oct. 9, 19953. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star among other citations.
He is survived by two sons, David (Linda) Gubanez of Bloomingdale and Samuel (Betty) Gubanez of Toronto; a daughter, Karen (Everett) Grimm of Toronto; a brother, Mike Gubanez of Amsterdam; a sister, Helen Rhome of Ft. Collins, CO; and 15 grandchildren, Amy, Christy and Ashley Grimm, Valerie, Jessica, Amanda, Maggie, Samantha, Keith, Mason, Colin, Todd, Emily, Logan and Jackson Gubanez.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Charles, John and Steve Gubanez and three sisters, Mary Gubanez, Anna Dubetz and Olga Plavka.
At Andrew's request, funeral arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family. Blackburn Funeral Homes in Bergholz was in charge of arrangements.
