Francis Gene Shuman

Francis Gene Shuman, age 73, went home to be with his Lord Sunday evening, July 8, 2012.

Born July 10, 1938, in Steubenville, he was a son of the late Frank R. and Margaret Shuman.

Gene was a retired metallurgist and worked several years with the late Bill Nichols in the excavating business. He also was a well-known local auto mechanic and pilot of small airplanes. Gene was actively involved in the total restoration of the early Greek revival home he and his wife own.

He is survived by his wife, Julie of Carrollton; a son, Francis Gene Shuman Jr. of Carrollton; a daughter, Rose Ann Marie Haney of Stone Creek, OH; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Mary) Shuman and Albert Clark (Kathy) Shuman, both of Carrollton; a sister, Rebecca Foltz of South Carolina; and step mother, Sharon Shuman of Carrollton.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and one nephew, Christopher Shuman.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 13 at 11 a.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial will follow in East Springfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11-7 p.m. in the funeral home with the family present from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made in Gene's name to the One Way Youth Center, 100 McCook Ave., Carrollton, OH 4615 or the Carroll County Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 353, Carrollton, OH 44615.
