Donald "Mutt" James Lilley

Donald "Mutt" James Lilley, age 83, of Carrollton passed away in his home Friday, July 2, 2010.

Born Nov. 26, 1926, in Canton, he was the son of the late James William Lilley and Lena Ethel (Stewart) Miller.

He was an Army veteran of WWII and was a printer and camera operator at Carrollton Graphics.  A member of the Church of Christ (Christian-Disciples) for 72 years, he served as an elder and enjoyed singing in the choir.  He was a member of Carroll Masonic Lodge #0124 for 50-plus years and was a past master.  He belonged to the Vet's Club, VFW #3301 and the American Legion.  He was a Republican precinct man for several years and a Carrollton Schools bus driver.

He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth "Tib" Julene Grove, whom he married March 6, 1948; a son, Robert Donald (Yonette) Lilley of Elkin, NC; a daughter, Patti (Mark) Manfull of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Kristen (Corey) Yeager, Matt Manfull, Angela (Dave) Holland and Lanette Masters and four great grandchildren, Kayla, Lauren, Roger and Ryan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lorin "Popeye" Miller, Jr.; a sister, Bertha Wagner; his stepfather, Lorin F. Miller and a grandson, Robbie Augustine.

Funeral services were held July 6 at Church of Christ (Christian-Disciples) with Rev. Mike Doak officiating.  Burial followed in Westview Cemetery with full military honors by VFW, DAV and American Legion.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in memory of Don to Carroll County Visiting Nurse Association, 1115 Canton Rd., NW, Carrollton, 44615 or Church of Christ (Christian-Disciples), 353 Moody Ave., SW, Carrollton, 44615.

Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton was in charge of arrangements.
