Mary J. Baxter

Mary J. Baxter, age 90, of Minerva died Monday, June 20, 2011, in Great Trail Care Center. 

Born May 14, 1921, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of Ross and Gladys (Morrison) Hoopengarner. 

She was a housewife and co-founder of Baxter's Insurance Agency in Minerva.  She was a member of Bayard United Methodist Church and graduated from Minerva High School in 1939.  She was an avid golfer, and US traveler and a 4-H Advisor for 20 years.  She was a 73-year member of Bayard Grange #1878.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Robert) Hill of Mogadore, Sue (Gary) Obney of Minerva, and Barbara Baxter of Aurora; three sons; Robert (Lynn) Baxter of Alliance, Rod (Kelli) Baxter of N. Canton, and Roger Baxter of Canton; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Baxter, who died in 2007; sister, Helen Campbell and a half-brother, Robert Myers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. in Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Joe Ertl officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Minerva Area YMCA.  Those unable to attend may sign the register at www.gotschallfuneralhome.com.
