Melvin Myers

Melvin MyersMelvin Myers, age 88, of Malvern, left to meet his maker, on Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Aultman Hospital. 

He was born on Jan. 29, 1921, in Plain Township and was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Verna (Ecrement) Myers; a daughter Ann Cubick; brother Donald Myers; and brothers-in-law Harry Silvius and Louis Wise. 

he served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and on two occasions spoke to General McArthur.  He was employed for many years at Forest Wise and Son's John Deere Tractor Dealer and retired from Lake Local Schools where he was the director of maintenance and a good and faithful worker.  He retired in 1972 and moved to Malvern and was a full time farmer.  He felt that was the best time of his life.  He was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and his collection of John Deere Tractors.  May he Rest in Peace.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Wise) Myers; his son Richard Myers of Malvern; daughter Becky (Don) Wisselgren of Navarre; grandsons Randy (Susie) Cubick of Cameron, WV, Kevin Cubick of Columbus, and Brian Wisselgren of Navarre; great grandchildren Colby, Anna and Zane Cubick of Cameron, WV; a sister, Grace Silvius; sisters-in-law Darlene Myers, Frances Valliere and Jeneva Wise; brother-in-law Richard (Vera) Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 12 in Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel with Pastor Jeff Gindlesberger officiating.  Burial was in North Canton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carroll County Visiting Nurses Association, PO Box 610, Carrollton, OH, 44615.  Those wishing to send condolences or share a fond memory, may sign the Reed On-Line Guestbook at  www.reedfuneralhome.com.
