Herbert S. Echols

Herbert S. EcholsHerbert S. Echols, 83, of Carrollton, passed away Jan. 11, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville.

Born March 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Albert and Eva (Smith) Echols.

Herb was a very kind, loving, and generous man. He liked to have a garden every year and loved to watch wildlife around his home. He was always tinkering on something.

He was a United States Marine who served in WWII. He was a member of Amsterdam VFW and Scio American Legion. He retired in 1993 from Carpenter Union Local 186.

He is survived by sons, Timmy (Terry) Elson of Amsterdam and Daniel (Susie) Elson of Carrollton; sisters, Grace McGaw of Myerstown, PA, and Lois Phillips of Girard; brother, Don Echols of Sheboygan, WI; grandchildren, Rhena Ball and Ariel Carpenter and Donny (Valerie) Myler, all of Amsterdam, Terri (Ronnie) Vanhorne of Carrollton, and Stacy (Chad) Lenz of Bridgeport; and great grandchildren, Faith Vanhorne, Isaaish Johnston, Carissa, Cody, Marissa Myler, Gaven, Dylan Sandy, Layla Kain, Xavier, and Kyle Lenz. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, Mikey Cvengross.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Milewsky) Echols in 1984; brothers, Burt, Rupert, and Jack; sisters, Mary, Dorothy, Alice, and Ruth; and a granddaughter, Tory Janel Myler in 2006.
