Kathleen L. Mayo
Kathleen L. Mayo, 80, of Livonia, MI, formerly of Amsterdam, died Dec. 24, 2009, in Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Born June of 1929 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Ada (Howell) Simpson and John Simpson.
She was the sister of Eileen Pietrowsky of Minerva, Joan Boggess of Weirton, WV, Doris Knapp of Carrollton and the late Ione Boggess of Detroit.
Kathleen was an award-winning quilter whose quilts hang in museums and have been shown at the Smithsonian. She designed her own quilts, which were featured in many quilt magazines. She was the secretary/treasurer of the family owned Custom Fit Window Corporation and was a contributor to Simmons Ridge Burial Estates. Her name appears on a plaque at that cemetery where many of her ancestors are buried.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, Claude Mayo; she is survived by two daughters Janice and Patty; and two sons Dennis and Michael. Another son Douglas is deceased. She had six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at Fred Wood Funeral Home in Livonia, MI.
