Jan Louis Decker
Jan Louis Decker, the three-year-old son of Jason and Amber-Leigh Shoemaker Decker, Sr. of 7043 Forrest Road SW, Dellroy, went home to be with the Lord Monday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2010, in Union Hospital ER at Dover.
He was born premature at 24 weeks Oct. 14, 2006, in Canton and was always a fighter. Jan was everyone's "little man" and he commonly told everyone they were "his best buddy". He was a remarkable little boy with a smile that won everyone over. His dad called him the "Little Professor" for he loved the sound of big words and at the young age of 3 he was already very fluent at sign language. He was a member of the Word of Life Church at New Philadelphia and his favorite book of the Bible was Isaiah, Chapter 43, verses 1-43. Jan was an enthusiastic fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his six brothers and sisters, Nicholas A., Rebecca-Lynn M., Mary-Elizabeth A., Jason R. Jr., Charles C., and Johnathan C. Decker, all of the home; paternal grandfather, Charles F. Decker of Sherrodsville; maternal grandmother, Deborah Shoemaker of Dellroy; great-grandmother, Jean Hitchcock of California; three uncles, Charles L. Decker of Bowerston, Jerod (Carrie) Decker of Wisconsin, and Joel A. Decker of Sherrodsville; two aunts, Mrs. John R. (Julie) Nolan III of Solon, and Caitlin L. Shoemaker of Dellroy; and numerous cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Christian-Elizabeth Patterson and maternal grandmother, Jan L. Decker.
Funeral services were held Sept. 11 in Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville with Pastor Bill Harrison officiating. Interment followed in Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund has been established for Jan through the Word of Life Church, c/o 3152 Eastport Road SE, Dennison, OH 44621. To leave an online condolence, visit www.baxtergardner.com.
