Anthony "Tony" G. Scopel
Anthony "Tony" G. Scopel, age 95, of Carrollton and formerly of Arch St., Salem, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Carroll Golden Age Retirement Home in Carrollton.
Born Oct. 8, 1914, in Amsterdam, he was a son of the late John B. and Rose (Mellett) Scopel.
Before his retirement in 1977, he was a machine operator for 35 years at American Standard (formerly Mullins Manufacturing) and worked at the Y&O Coal Company in Amsterdam.
He is survived by Gladys Rand, his companion of 12 years; a brother, Albino Scopel of Amsterdam; four sisters, Pauline Teichman, Bella Johnson and Angie Tiziani, all of Amsterdam, and Marie Havelka of Follansbee, WV; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ethel (Hary) Scopel, whom he married Nov. 9, 1935, and who passed away May 11, 1992; three brothers, John, Attilio and Trisanio Scopel and a sister, Agnes Scopel.
Private family services were held Aug. 28 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem with Rev. William Westling officiating. There were no calling hours. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park. |
