Lela Margaret George

Lela Margaret George, 94, of Bergholz passed away Aug. 26, 2011, in Gables Care Center in Hopedale, where she resided for over three years.

Born July 29, 1917, in Bergholz, she was a daughter of the late Harold (Hac) and Hattie Pearl Anderson Carson.

She was a graduate of Bergholz High School class of 1935.  She was a member of Bergholz Trinity United Presbyterian Church where she served as church treasurer, and was a member of the women's association, choir, and was a pianist and organist.

She was a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Ellis George Hardwood Lumber and later retired from McBane Insurance Co. in Bergholz after several years.  After retirement, she was the organist for Blackburn Funeral Home in Bergholz for years.

She is survived by a daughter, Carlene (Duane) Welsch of Richmond; a granddaughter, Laurie (Bill) Martt of Aman, Jordan; a grandson, George (Denise) Twaddle of Marysville; three great grandchildren; Jeff (Corina) Martt, Kevin Martt, and Anne Twaddle; two step granddaughters, Kim Mason (Craig Leningart) of Mt. Vernon and Dawn Altman of Salem; four step great grandchildren, Alan Michael and Sydney Mason and Zachary and Braedon Altman; two sisters, Bertha Dill of Fairfax, VA, and Mary Lois (Bill) Banfield of Naples, FL; two brothers, Dick (Mary Jane) Carson of Bergholz and Ralph (Juanita) Carson of Shelby; two brothers-in-law, Warren Haney of Uniontown and Lewis Christen of Irondale; and many cousins that meant so much to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis George, who she married July 3, 1936, and who died in 1959; four sisters, Betty Moore, Alice Thomas, Sara Haney and Martha Christen; six brothers-in-law, Thornton Thomas, Gene Dill, Eldon George, Samuel Dubetz, Paul Crow and Paul Moore; two sisters-in-law, Maxine George and Eileen George Dubetz Crow; two nieces, Carolyn Dill Smith and Audrey Faye George Jaeb; and two nephews, Bill George and Sammy Dubetz.

Friends may call at Blackburn Funeral Home, 2nd and Monroe St., Bergholz, Monday, Aug. 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Services will be held Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Alan Jeffries officiating.  Burial will follow in Mooretown Cemetery near Bergholz.  Donations may be made in Lela's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
