Richard Lee “Dick” Moore

Richard Lee “Dick” Moore, 77, of Scio, lost his life to cancer Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at his home.

Born Nov. 2, 1931, in Bergholz, he was a son of Bernice Pyles Moore, a resident of the Harrison County Home and the late Donald A. Moore.
He graduated from Scio High School in 1950 and served in the Army during the Korean War.  He worked for The Scio Pottery for 10 years and Republic Steel of Canton for 35 years where he retired as a journeyman electrician.

He was a member of Scio United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Scio American Legion Post #482, a member of 40/8, Jewett VFW, Scio Masonic Lodge #587 and was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Valley of Steubenville.  He was an avid outdoorsman and for many years enjoyed deer hunting, belonging to the Ohio Big Buck Club, but in more recent years he enjoyed turkey hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Watson Moore, whom he married Feb. 16, 1952; a son, Donald Allen Moore of Dennison; a daughter, Anna Lee (Bob) Whitman of Uhrichsville; grandson, Joseph Alan Collins of Uhrichsville; close friends, Gordon Custer of Scio and Kelly Hildabrand of Massillon and his two dogs, Onyx and Kooie.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.

Services were held June 27 in Koch Funeral Home in Scio with Rev. Karen Heyburn officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Carroll County, 1040 Trump Rd. NW, Suite B, Carrollton, 44615.
