Edward Merryman

Edward Merryman, age 74, of SherrodsvilleEdward Merryman, age 74, of Sherrodsville, passed away in his home Friday evening, May 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family following a very courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 17, 1937, in Canton, he was a son of the late Donald and Catherine Huth Merryman

Ed honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-58. In 1990, he retired as a scarfer from the Timken Company Harrison Plant after 30 years of service.

A former resident of Dellroy for 49 years, he owned and operated a farm in the area for many years. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and enjoyed spending time at family get-togethers.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Jeanne Timar, whom he married June 4, 1958; four children, Kimberly (Richard) Tucker of Carrollton, Edward (Margie) Merryman of Sherrodsville, Annette (James) Bornemann of Chilo, OH, and Vicesaha (Timothy) Alsept of Dellroy; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Merryman and a sister, Mary Clark both of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Barnby of Canton and Nancy Timar of Mesa, AZ; a brother-in-law, Alex (Joy) Timar of Bufford, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Ronald and Donald; a grandson, Takoda Alsept; a granddaughter, Debra (Tucker) Mays; a brother, George Merryman; a sister, Sondra Goodchild; brothers-in-law, William Barnby, William Clark, and Ernie Goodchild; a niece, Rosemary Taylor, and a nephew, Joseph Timar.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at 1 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Larry Stitt officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Baxter's Ridge Cemetery near New Harrisburg where the Carroll County combined units of the VFW, D.A.V., and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
