Millicent "Jean" Yorke Dowdell
Millicent "Jean" Yorke Dowdell, age 94, formerly of Carrollton passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, in Crandall Medical Center.
Born Oct. 31, 1915, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Boyd Jehiel and Sarah Millicent (Jacklin) Yorke.
She was a graduate of Carrollton High School. She taught at Caldwell and Waterloo School Districts as band director. She was a member of Carrollton United Presbyterian Church. She attended Muskingum College and graduated from the College of Wooster, where she majored in music. She was a member of the Music Club of Carrollton and was a professional musician for a Pittsburgh Radio station. She was a past PTA president, enjoyed playing the Baby Grand Piano and organ and played at various churches in the area.
She is survived by three sons, Boyd Hugh (Mary Ann) Dowell of Minerva, John Charles Dowell of Canton and Scot Lee (Susan) of North Canton and five grandchildren, Chad, Curtis, Adam, Grant and Ellen Dowdell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Hugh Dowell, whom she married Dec. 26, 1941, and who passed away Jan. 14, 1989; a sister, Mabel Millicent Yorke; a brother, Cecil Yorke and a son, Brad Coe.
Funeral services were held April 14 at Carrollton United Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carrollton United Presbyterian Church, 265 Second St., SW, Carrollton, 44615 or Scroggsfield Presbyterian Church. Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
