Robert E.  "Bob" Leeper

Robert E.  "Bob" Leeper, age 79 of Bolivar died Monday evening, March 30, 2009, in the Affinity Medical Center at Massillon following a two-week illness.

Born June 26, 1929, in Cleveland and raised in Leesville, he was the son of the late William W.  and Gertrude Olga Thomas Leeper, Sr. 

He graduated from the former Dellroy High School in 1947. He joined the Navy in 1949 and married his first wife Patricia (O'Connor), the mother of surviving daughter Mrs. Stanley (Patricia) Powell of Frederick, MD., and son Michael (Mary Jo) Leeper  of Elyria.  Patricia died in 1974 and Bob's youngest son, Robert Thomas Leeper, currently of Bolivar, was born in 1976 with his second wife Sandy.  He married Marlene Farnum Reinhart in 1983 in Maryland and they retired together in Bolivar in 1994 where he enjoyed the company of his family and friends after an absence of 45 years.

In addition to Bob's children, surviving also are Marlene's children, Mrs. Richard (D'Nece D.) Dillbeck of Sacramento, CA, and William J.  (Toni) Reinhart III of Reston, VA.; beloved grandchildren, Susan Powell,  Stanley Powell, Jr., Paul Michael Powell, Michael Robert Leeper and great-grandsons, Ryan Michael Powell, Nathan Robert Powell, and Noah Benjamin Powell, all residents of  Maryland.  Bob loved to play cards, darts, horseshoes and pool, all of which he taught his sons and grandsons, who refer to him lovingly as "Pop".

Also surviving are nephews, Francis A.  "Buddy" (Rhonda) Leeper Jr., William  (Betty) Leeper, Stephen (Lana) Tope, and William James "Jim" Leeper and nieces, Susan (Rick) Andrukat,  Mrs. Harold (Janette Lee) Haver, Linda Tanner, and Lira Maywood, and step-grandsons Joel and Matt Soule' of California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas J., Francis A.  "Fritz", and William W.  "Bill" Leeper, Jr., and two sisters Marilyn and Shirley Leeper, and his father-image, Uncle Francis Leeper.

His loving and helpful ways will be sorely missed by sisters, Dorothy Boswell of Prescott, AZ., and  Mrs. Elmer (Alice) Tope of Bolivar; cousins, Joy and Gordon (Sharon) Leeper of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Ellen Leeper of Sherrodsville, Mary Leeper of Dover and Gloria Leeper, all of Leesville;  his mother-image, Aunt Mabel Leeper of Waterford, MI, and his many, many, friends.  Bob's life and worth are summed up by the words inscribed on his monument "Quiet Hero".

He was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church, where he attended with many of his family members,  and was a four-year U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.  He enjoyed the fellowship of the Conotton Valley Senior Citizens Card Club on Wednesdays, was a member of the Tuscarawas County YMCA for 15 years, and participated in the Tuscarawas Co. Senior Citizens Bowling League at Boulevard Lanes.  Bob worked as a Union Plumber in Washington D.C. for 18 1/2- years.   He then worked  as a government plumber at the U. S. Senate, where he retired after 22 years service.
  
Funeral services were conducted April 4, 2009, in the Leesville United Methodist Church  with Rev. Jerralyn Myers officiating.  Interment followed in the Leesville Cemetery where the Carroll County American Legion,  V.F.W., and DAV will conduct military graveside services. Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville was in charge of arrangements.
