Robert L. (Bob) Donaldson

Robert L. (Bob) DonaldsonRobert L. (Bob) Donaldson, 61, a Roswell Rd., S.W. Sherrodsville, resident passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family Feb. 15, 2010, following a courageous fight against cancer. 

Born March 8, 1948, in Weston, WV., he was the son of the late Robert S. Donaldson and Gladys Ruth Nolan Donaldson.

Bob attended Weston High School before joining the U.S. Army where he served as a medic from 1969-1971. After serving his country he returned home to Weston where he worked at the state hospital. It was there that he met his current wife Patricia (Riley) Donaldson. They were able to spend 28 happy years together.

He enjoyed working on cars, watching old westerns, bowling, trying his luck at instant scratch off tickets and was an avid poker player. He was employed as a machinist at Paramount Machine in New Philadelphia for the past 10 years.

He is survived by his wife Patty, whom he married May 12, 1981; a son, Michael (Mary) Donaldson of Erial, NJ; a daughter, Kimberly (Kenton) Bozic of Weston, WV; his sister, Leoma "Lee" Fallon of Weston, WV; a half-brother, Danny Donaldson of Florida; a half-sister, Lela Coleman of Florida; two stepsons William (Terry) Linger of Fairmont, WV, and Samuel Linger II of Fairfield, IL; two stepdaughters, Gigi (Brian) Standiford of Sherrodsville and Desa Rae (Dave) Worth of Mechanicstown;  17 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He had a special relationship with everyone he knew. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a stepdaughter, Marlena Harris-Frazee; his stepmother, Mable (Posey) Donaldson; half-sisters, Inez Bishop and Lula (Donaldson) Landreth, and a half-brother William "Bill" Donaldson.

A service of remembrance was held  Feb. 18 in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Pastor Dan Price officiating.  Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home in Weston, WV, with Pastor Toby Dukich officiating.  Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery at Jane Lew, WV, where military graveside services were observed.
