Ruby Jewell Pickens

Ruby Jewell Pickens, 81, of Nectar Road, Salineville, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Morehead, KY., she was a daughter of the late Bert and Mina McCormick Brown.

After moving to this area at the age of 14, she became a member of the Monroeville Assembly of God Church. She was a member of the Salineville Eastern Star, and a member of the Ruritans. 

She was a devoted mother, wife, and homemaker and worked at numerous jobs, some of which included clerking at grocery stores, ombudsman for health care, and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed immensely, cooking, canning and baking and won many awards at the county fairs.

She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Linda) Pickens of Salineville and Robert J. Pickens of Circleville; one daughter, Mary Luanne Lairson of Minerva; three brothers, William (Ruth) Brown of Salineville, Jack (Doris) Brown of Bergholz, and Jim (Judy) Brown of Salineville; four sisters, Joan Copps of Georgia, Rose Stella of Florida, Barbara Mayes of Cincinnati and Verna Wolfe of Calcutta; four granddaughters, Ashley Jewel Horning, Julie Pickens, Jessica Bradhurst and Lacey Pickens; four grandsons, Matthew Pickens, Leland Pickens, Lance Pickens and Ryan Pickens; and two great-grandchildren, Leland Pickens and Jordan Pickens.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Pickens, on Aug. 19, 1990.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Monroeville Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rodney Ohler officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
