Kenneth D. Palmer

Kenneth D. PalmerKenneth D. Palmer, 84, died Dec. 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center from injuries sustained in a fall at his home Dec. 2.  He was born to J. Allen and Frances (Critser) Palmer on Aug. 7, 1926, near New Franklin (Stark Co.) and was a life-long resident of the area.

He graduated from Minerva High School in 1944.  He retired from Republic Steel Corporation in 1983 after 39 years’ service as a maintenance welder.  He also participated in the family drilling business for a time.  He also served as Paris Township trustee from 1962 – 1982.

Kenny enjoyed family activities as well as hunting and fishing, especially fishing in Canada with his father, his siblings or sons.  More recently, Kenny enjoyed participating in car shows and parades, proudly displaying his 1948 Diamond T truck that he had painstakingly restored.  He was formerly a member of Stockers and Streeters car club in Minerva.
He was a member of the Minerva First Christian Church for over 50 years and served there as deacon, trustee, member of building committee and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Ronnie and Richard. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Byers) Palmer; sons Bob Palmer, Larry (Diana) Palmer, both of Minerva, and Jim (Shelley) Palmer of Westerville; four grandsons ,(Evan, Elliot, Daniel {Tiffany} and Kyle) and a great-grandson (Lucas); brother Carl (Ruth Ann) Palmer; and sisters Shirley (Paul) Cope and Mary (Jess) Hall.

Funeral services will be Dec. 13 at 11:00 am in Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Ralph Norman and Mr. Dale Roberts officiating.  Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Minerva First Christian Church.
