James Alvin Borland

James Alvin Borland, age 72, of 226 E. Main St., Freeport formerly of Carrollton, died peacefully in his sleep at home Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at 2:30 a.m. Born Nov. 11, 1938, in Center Twp., Carroll County, he was a son of the late Lloyd Franklin Borland and Helen Lucille Robbins Borland.  He was one of 11 children.

He retired from Structural Stoneware Inc. of Minerva in 1986 and was a member of Lakeland Senior Citizens.  He enjoyed sitting in his rocking chair and liked old cars.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Billie Carol Gatts Luyster Borland, whom he married July 22, 1977; a daughter, Penny (Danny) Shepherd of Freeport; a step-daughter, Peggy Luyster Couch of Holloway; a stepson, David (Freda) Luyster of Scio; five brothers, Bob (Elsie) Borland of Malvern, Frank (Jean) Borland of Louisville, Roy (Lana) Borland of Massillon, Jay (Linda) Borland of Malvern and Donald (Helen) Borland of Dennison; three sisters, Mary (Harry) Hill and Alta Jones, both of Carrollton, and Lois Jean (Ivan) Krimas of Dalton; three grandchildren, Danielle Shepherd, Kolton Shepherd and Alexis Shepherd; and five step-grandchildren, Clayton Luyster, Ashley Luyster, Diana Luyster, Jacqueline Couch, and Michelle Couch; a step great granddaughter, Madaline Dobrich; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stull of Scio; a brother-in-law, Donald Gatts of Scio and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Gilber (Ethel) Stillion and Cynthia Borland and an infant brother and infant sister. Services were held Nov. 27 in Koch Funeral Home in Freeport with Bob Main officiating.  Burial was in Westview Cemetery in Carrollton.  Online condolences may be sent at www.kochfuneralhome.net.
