LaVern "Vern" Gossman Jr.
LaVern "Vern" Gossman Jr., 77, of Salineville Rd., died suddenly early Tuesday afternoon at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Born April 24, 1936, in Massillon, he was a son of the late LaVern and Mabel Jones Gossman.
He lived all his life in the Salineville area, attended Carrollton High School, and was an important supporter of Riley's United Presbyterian Church. He became owner and operator of Saline Oil and Supply and also owned and operated Salineville Carry Out. In earlier years, he owned and operated Vern's Sinclair/Arco Gas Station, Vern's Trucking and L & G Transit. He enjoyed farming, which he did for many years, and loved to collect antique cars. Vern loved his community and gave back in many ways, tirelessly supporting many community activities. He loved his family and most of all he loved to work. He lived his life as he wanted, and was proud of that.
Vern will be sadly missed not only by the entire community, but especially his family, his wife, Ursala Eich Giannone Gossman, whom he married on Aug. 14, 2001; one daughter, Debra (Jay) Meister; two stepsons, Stefan (Debbie) Giannone and Rodney Giannone; two brothers, Robert (Evelyn) Gossman, Leonard Gossman; one sister, Dian Hubbard; five grandchildren, Holly and Samantha Meister, Joshua and Jayson Gossman and Courtney Wilson; four step grandchildren, Tony, Jimmy, Angela, and Alisha Giannone; and nine great grandchildren, all of Salineville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Dauwe Gossman, in 1996; one brother,, Harold Gossman; and one son, Vernon Lee Gossman in 2006.
A service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home
in Salineville with Pastor Pat Smith of Riley's United Methodist and Tom Allmon of Bethesda Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Salineville.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.
