Louise Baker

Louise BakerLouise Baker, age 83, of 100 Bontrager St., Sherrodsville, died Friday morning, Oct. 14, 2011, in her residence following a two-year illness.

Born Dec. 3, 1927, in Arjay, KY, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Hester Smallwood Sanders, Sr.

She retired from The Scio Pottery in 1984 after 29 years of service. She recently retired as a clerk from Baxter's General Store in Sherrodsville, where she had worked since 1987. While working at Baxter's, Louise, along with her sister-in-law Alta Sanders were affectionately known as the "Golden Girls".  She attended Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville. Louise was always community-minded and served as a member of Sherrodsville Village Council from 1988 until 2008. Whether at work or serving on village council, Louise was always known and respected for her strong, yet solid opinions. She was always family oriented and was loved and respected by all generations of her family.

She is survived by her eight children:  Mrs. Charles (Diane) Smith of Hamilton, O., Ron (Tina) Baker and Darrell (Suzanna) Baker, both of Carrollton, Bobby Joe (Beverly) Baker of Richmond, IN, Larry (Debbie) Baker, Donald  (Jan) Baker and  Mrs. Joe (Linda) Arnold, all of Carrollton, and Mrs. Buddy (Tracy) Iverson of Sherrodsville;  23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren;, and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert L.  "Jack" (Alta) Sanders, Jr. of Sherrodsville and Arthur "Ott" (Judy) Sanders of Arjay, KY; six sisters, Geneva "Jenny" Beeler of Harrogate, TN, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Cloutier of Fountain Town, IN, and Mrs. Michael (Fern) Larrymore of Rueben Gap, GA, Patsy Leggett of Connersville, IN, Mrs. Charles (Doris) Miller of Zion, IL, and Brenda Ogan of Tazewell, TN, and her good friend Bob Bennett of Corbin, KY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Baker, whom she married Nov. 17, 1945, and who died Sept. 6, 1999; six brothers; one sister; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m.  in Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville  with Rev. Milo Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Calling hours will be held Monday, from 4- 8 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Sherrodsville Emergency Squad, c/o P.O.
