Richard Lee Walker

Richard Lee Walker, age 82, beloved husband and dad, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009.

Born March 7, 1927, in Minerva, he was a son of Herman Boyd Walker and Marjorie (Weikert) Walker in Minerva and remained a life long resident of the area.

He attended Pleasant Valley Grade School and Minerva High School class of 1945. He received his diploma with the class of 1946 while serving in the US Navy in WWII. He was called back to the Navy from 1950-1952 for the Korean Conflict.  He was a former employee of Minerva Cronin China, Republic Steel, 30 years with the Timken Company as plant security guard and executive driver, bus driver for 13 years for the Minerva Local School district and laborer for John H. McLoney Construction. He was a life member of the Minerva First Christian Church where he was in the U&I Sunday school class, an usher and church bus driver.

He was a life member of the Minerva American Legion Post #357 and Canton V.F.W. Post #693, 1965 Past Master of Tubal Lodge #551 Free and Accepted Masons in Minerva, 1971-1977 past ritual advisor for Minerva Chapter of DeMolay, Past District Education Officer of the 21st Masonic District, Past Sovereign Prince of the Prince of Jerusalem A.A.S.R., coroneted a 33rd degree Mason in 1982 by the Valley of Canton Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in St. Louis, MO, and 1978 Past Patron of Esther Chapter #120 Order of the Eastern Star in Minerva, presently Carroll Chapter #315 O.E.S. 
He was a member of the U.S.S Montpelier CL 57 Association of WWII. He enjoyed private flying over 32 years with the Minerva Flying Association located on Walker property, white water rafting, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly (Haynam) Walker whom he married May 9, 1954; a son, Terry Lee (Barbara) Walker of Lodi, WI; a daughter, Bonny (Bruce) McPherson of Louisville; granddaughters, Erica (Chris) Bennett of Pine Mountain Club, CA, and Antionette (Darin) Westphal of Rochester, MN; grandson, Mark (Laura) McPherson of East Canton; great grandchildren, Corinne Maule, Leilani Bennett and Hope and Chloe Westphal; brother, James (Joyce) Walker of Minerva; three sisters, Norma Gross, Marilyn (Robert) Midcap and Bernice Tenant, all of Minerva and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (John) McLoney of Carrollton and Doris (James) Ewing of Lisbon.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Wilt and Phyllis Hamilton Elser; a grandson, Corey Lee Walker; mother and father-in-law, Chester and Erla Haynam and step father-in-law,
James W. Johnson.

Funeral services were held Sept. 5 in Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Todd Thomas officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Liberty Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canton 32 degree Masonic Learning Center for Dyslexia, 836 North Market St., Canton, Ohio 44702.
