Walter Dean Flohr
Walter Dean Flohr, 82, of Bloomingdale died Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2011, at his home after a long illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Bloomingdale, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith Kuhn Flohr.
Dean was a graduate of Wayne High School Class of 1948. After graduating, he served four years in the US Navy as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class on the USS Kittiwake ASR 13.
He retired from Conrail, the former Pennsylvania Railroad, where he was employed for over 45 years. He was an active member of Bloomingdale Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Unionport Masonic Lodge #333 for over 50 years, Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite and the American Legion in Wintersville.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn (McCully) Flohr of Bloomingdale, who he married June 15, 1952; a son, Robert Dean Flohr of Wintersville; a daughter, Sally Ann (James) Badger of Savannah, GA; a sister, Ruth (Raymond) Hawkins of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter and a sister-in-law, Priscilla Flohr of Bloomingdale.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Dean Flohr; a daughter, Barbara Ann Flohr; and a brother, Charles Flohr.
Funeral services will be held June 9 at 11 a.m. in Blackburn Funeral Home , 324 High St., Hopedale, with Pastor Kenneth Sickle officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomingdale Cemetery with military honors provided by Hopedale American Legion. Friends may call June 8 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. provided by Unionport Masonic Lodge #333.
