Paul Richard Bortz
Paul Richard Bortz, 80, of Malvern, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at Alliance Community Hospital, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 5, 1930, in Canton, he was the son of the late Clarence H. and Mae M. C. (Loehr) Bortz.
He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Malvern and a graduate of Malvern High School.
He was a dairy farmer for 60 years, and served his community in a variety of ways: 50 years as a Carroll County Republican Committeeman; 10 years on the Carroll County Board of Elections, serving as its current president as well as holding that position in the past; 20 years on the Malvern Police Department, and 40 years as a volunteer fireman for both Brown Township and Malvern Fire Departments. He served on the board of Consumers National Bank for 25 years. He was the Past President of Carroll County Farm Bureau, a long time member of Magnolia and Alliance Town Bands, and a member of Brown Township 2054, Pomona, Carroll County and State Granges.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Bland) Bortz; a daughter, Paula R (Jason) Jefferys of Alliance; a step-son, Jeff E Mohr of Malvern; grandchildren Kyle Mohr of Pittsburgh, Cameron Mohr of Malvern, and Connor Mohr of Massillon.
He is preceded in death by a stepson Mark Mohr.
Funeral Services were held May 3 at Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, Malvern, with Rev. A. Wallace Anderson officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends unable to attend may register online at www.bartleyfuneralhome.com.
