Martha Lucille Carson Christen

Martha Lucille Carson Christen, 91, of Irondale, died suddenly Friday morning April 16, 2010, in Trinity West.

Born Jan. 3, 1919, in Bergholz, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Hattie Pearl Anderson Carson.

She was a graduate of Bergholz High School in 1937, where she excelled as a basketball player all through high school.  She was a very active member of the New Somerset Christian Church where she played piano and organ for many years and was active in church women's groups, including The Willing Workers.  She retired from Sears Roebuck in Steubenville where she worked for 13 years.

She is survived by her husband, Homer Lewis Christen of Irondale, whom she married Nov. 20, 1941; a son, David Scott (Linda) Christen of Morgantown, WV; three daughters, Beverly Ann Christen and Elaine Joyce Christen, both of Irondale, and Donna Lou (Donald) Call of Carrollton; two brothers, John Richard (Mary Jane) Carson of Bergholz and Ralph "Ike" (Juanita) Carson of Ohio; and four sisters, Lela George of Bergholz, Bertha Dill of Fairfax, VA, Mary Lou (William) Banfield of Naples, FL, and Sarah Helen (Warren) Haney of Akron.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Moore and Alice Thomas.

Funeral services were held April 19 at New Somerset Christian Church with Pastor Rob Rowe officiating.  Burial was in Mooretown Cemetery.  Blackburn Funeral Home (740-768-2300) in Bergholz was in charge of arrangements.
