Norman (Bud) Downard

Norman (Bud) Downard, 67, of Bergholz died Saturday, April 16, 2011, in Barberton Hospital.

Born Oct. 20, 1943, in Canton, he was a son of the late Clyde L. and Mary Paisley Downard.

He graduated from East Springfield High School, Class of 1961 and was a life long resident of Bergholz and a member of Bergholz Church of Christ.  After high school, Bud was inducted into the Army March 4, 1965, and was honorably discharged Feb. 8, 1967, serving in the Medical Corp.  He received the National Defense Medal, Basic Missleman Badge and Marksman Rifle M-14.  He was a proud, retired employee of Hoover Vacuum Company of Canton where he worked for over 31 years.

He is survived by his brother, Leroy (Red) and Ida Downard of Orient, OH; a sister, Mary Jane and Paul Barnhouse of Louisville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John; a sister, Shirley Downard and a nephew, Sam Downard.

Friends may call Monday April 18 at Blackburn Funeral Home, Bergholz from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral services will be April 19 at 11 a.m. with Minister David Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Bergholz Cemetary with military honors provided by Amsterdam VFW Post 232.  Blackburn Funeral Homes 740-768-2300.
