John S. Scopel

John S. Scopel, 72, of Amsterdam passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 in Steubenville following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 8, 1939, in Amsterdam, he was a son of the late John Jr. and Stella Kuryn Scopel.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of Toronto Masonic Lodge #583. He worked for 30 years as a coal miner, retiring from the Hopedale Mine as a Safety Director.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Pasiuk; two daughters, Michele (Jack) Lineberry of Urichsville and Joelle (Scott) Moran of Bergholz; two granddaughters, Sara Santille and Kaylee Moran; grandson, Blake Moran; great granddaughter, Kylie Dray; aunt, Jenny Kovalesky; nephew, Robert (Lisa) Scopel; and great nephew, R.J. Scopel.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

A memorial service for John will be held Wednesday, March 7 at 4 p.m. at Church of God in Amsterdam with Pastor Bob Davis officiating.
