Walter W. Swonger
Walter W. Swonger, 89, of Scio passed away in his home Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010.
Born Dec. 29, 1920, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Gust and Ruth (Treach) Swonger.
He was a farmer and retired from Republic Steel in 1983 after 32 years of service. He was an Army veteran of WWII and attended Reform Church in North Canton.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Weckly whom he married April 16, 1939; two sons, Robert E. (Carol) Swonger of Louisville and Timothy Swonger and companion, Gigi Williams, of Perrysville; two daughters, Nancy (Kenneth) Booth of Scio and Barbara (Steve) McGuire of New Vienna; two brothers, Carl Swonger of Lakeland, FL., and Richard Swonger of Canton; an aunt, Florence Martin of Uniontown; 19 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Swonger, Jr.; four brothers, Ralph, Donald, Thomas and Arthur Swonger and three sisters, Alice Spiegle, Margie Swonger and Betty Gross.
Funeral services were held Feb. 15 in Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial followed in Perrysville Cemetery with full military honors by VFW, DAV and American Legion. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association East Central Ohio, 4916 Hills & Dales, Canton or Hospice of Carroll County, 1040 Trump Rd, NW, Carrollton, 44615, in memory of Walter.
