Harold E. Small

Harold E. Small, age 90, of Uniontown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 31, 1919, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Everett and Pearl (LeMasters) Small.

He was a Uniontown resident for the past eight years, prior to which he had resided in Navarre for most of his life. Harold proudly served his country in WWII with U.S. Army as a machine gunner with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded two purple hearts. He retired from McClain Grocery in 1983 after more than 30 years of service and was a member of the VFW Post #5047. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where he had been active with the Sociable Sixties and was a member of the former Navarre Ruritans.

He is survived by three children and spouses, Carolyn and Jimmie Powers of Chesapeake, VA, Richard and Kathy Small of Minerva, and Debra and Richard Zellers of Hartville; five grandchildren, Laura (Bernie) Maloney, Karen (Dwight) Dunn, Heidi (David) Daniels, Natalie Zellers and Daniel Zellers and two great-grandchildren, Dorothy Nicole Dunn and Carol Lyn Dunn.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Jan. 15 in Otterbein United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra J. Speer officiating. Internment was in East Union Lawn Cemetery.
