AT CARROLLTON
A full day of activities is planned July 4 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by the July 4th Fireworks Committee and hosted by the Carroll County Ag Society, the event begins with breakfast by the Carrollton Civic Club from 7-11 a.m. under the grandstand.
A flea market begins at 7 a.m. and continues until dusk. A car show, with Jerry Tinlin as disc jockey, will be held at the north end of the fairgrounds beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until noon. Car show registation is $5 per vehicle.
VFW Post 3301 will conduct a flag raising at 9 a.m. and Carrollton resident Margo George will sing the National Anthem.
The American flag to be used in the ceremony is owned by Toby Davis of Carrollton. It flew over Nietnam when he was stationed at Phnom Penh, Mekong Delta, Nhatrang and Da Nang.
The Mod-Rod Pullers will present a garden tractor and modified tractor pull beginning at noon on the track in front of the grandstand, followed by karaoke with DJ Tom Newbold from 5:30 p.m. until dusk.
Inflatable games for children will be located on the grounds and various food stands will be set up.
At 9 p.m. a second flag raising will be conducted using a flag donated by State Senator John Boccieri. The flag was flown over Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
Fireworks will begin at dusk.

AT ATWOOD, TAPPAN
A full slate of activities will be held July 4-6, including the traditional giant fireworks show July 4.
The fireworks show begins at dark and is ignited near Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center, but is visible from most locations in the surrounding area. Numerous other events also are planned at Atwood Lake Park.
Events begin July 4 at 11 a.m. with naturalist-led nature hikes through the park region, followed by a barbecue dinner at 5 p.m. The Phil and Sparky band will play at the beach at 7 p.m. and then the fireworks show will begin at dark.
Saturday’s events include crafts for children and adults, nature hikes, Ultimate Frisbee and bingo. A night hike also is scheduled. More arts and design classes are set for Sunday (July 6) along with board games in the park activity center.
Overnight camping is available in the park and the park’s swimming beach will be open all weekend long.

TAPPAN LAKE PARK
"Fun and Fireworks Day" at Tappan Lake Park is on the schedule for
July 5
Besides a full schedule of activities throughout the weekend for the Fourth of July holiday, the park’s annual giant holiday fireworks show is set for July 5 at dark.
Numerous other activities for all members of the family also are planned throughout the weekend at the park.
Events begin Friday with a T-shirt craft at 11 a.m. and bingo to
follow at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday (July 5), the park’s annual Fourth of July parade will step off at 11 a.m. (lineup at 10:15 a.m.) with the theme of "Show Your Spirit" for all entries. A horseshoe tournament is planned at 2 p.m. and the Joe Zelek Band will perform at the park’s beach beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The fireworks show at the beach will begin at dark complete with food vendors available.
Overnight camping also is available and the park’s swimming beach will be
open all week and weekend.
