CHS speakers Vegas bound

Staff Report

Three members of the Carrollton High School Speech and Debate team have qualified to compete in the National Forensic League’s national tournament to be held June 14-23 in Las Vegas, NV.

Austin Temple and Matt Cairns will compete in the duo interpretation category with their selection titled “The Elf Rebellion”, and Dominick Arquilla has qualified in dramatic interpretation with the selection, “Heart of a Dog”. All three are 2008 graduates of CHS.

Both Temple and Cairns are two-year qualifiers in the national tournament and Arquilla is co-president of the Speech and Debate team.

They will be accompanied by Mrs. Alzana Nuzzolillo, Speech and Drama coach at CHS, and Mrs. Karen Curry, an assistant coach.

Serving as alternates are Jen Silver, who qualified in original oratory and Taylor Thompson in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and Student Congress.

Mrs. Nuzzolillo said these students have achieved an honor very few can claim. “It is a credit to their dedication and character to have met this accomplishment,” she added.
