The Fourth of July holiday will provide plenty of color in the skies above Atwood Lake and Atwood Lake Park.
A full slate of activities over the holiday weekend (July 3-5) is planned, including the traditional giant fireworks show on Saturday, July 4. The fireworks show begins at dark and is ignited near Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center, but is visible from most locations in the surrounding area.
Numerous other events also are planned at Atwood Lake Park. Events begin July 3 at 11 a.m. with a bicycle safety check presented by the staff of Ernie’s Bicycle Shop. Then at 1 p.m., the park Nature Center opens for the day. Full story
The Carroll County Department of Job & Family Services is ready to begin its one-time gas card program for employed parents or caretakers in Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)-eligible assistance groups who are residents of Carroll County.
TANF eligible adults must be currently employed and the household income must be under the 200% of poverty level for the household size. (For example, the household income for a family of four cannot exceed $3534/month gross income).
Kate Offenberger, director, said applications will be received by the agency, located at 95 East Main St, Carrollton, during normal business hours; however, applicants are encouraged to apply on Tuesdays from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Agency hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Tuesdays from 7:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Full story
Carroll County Commissioners are moving forward with a proposal to purchase a building to house the county health department.
Following an 11-minute executive session last Thursday, commissioners agreed to hire Peck Shaffer and Williams of Columbus to secure a $400,000 bond for the possible purchase of a building located on Moody Ave., owned by Dr. Mark Lamielle. The health department is currently housed in the building, The lease expires Dec. 31, 2009.
Commissioner Tom Wheaton said the bond is the first step in securing a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to possibly purchase the building. “We have a paper stating we have first right of refusal until July 15 for the building, but we do not have a signed contract or a purchase price,” he said.
