FPS staff report

Channel Road fireThe State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home and garage in Fox Twp. early Tuesday morning.

Fox Twp. Fire Chief Fred Barnett said his department was called to 2219 Channel Rd., Carrollton, at 1 a.m. When they arrived, the structure was fully involved. Firefighters from Carrollton Village, Carroll County and Augusta provided mutual aid at the scene. A total of 29 firefighters were on the scene. A truck and firefighters remained on the scene until almost noon Tuesday.

The homeowner, Brandon Smith, was at work when the fire started. He and his 11-year-old son, Caden, live in the home. The son was staying with his mother.

Brandon is staying with his parents and is not asking for support from the community at this time. He expressed appreciation to all the firefighters and others who assisted at the scene.
