Minerva street likely won’t be paved in ’10

By Jan. H. Kennedy
FPS Correspondent

Valley Street most likely won’t be on the list of Minerva paving projects for 2010.

Administrator David Harp told village council last Tuesday his grant application for state Issue 2 funding scored only a 47, and most projects that get funding score at least 53. “We get penalized because we don’t have our engineering done in advance. Those who can afford to do the engineering get 10 points in that category, and we got only a three on this application.”

Harp said he expects the Grant Street bridge renovation to be completed soon. Paving is scheduled for Nov. 30. At that time, the paving company also will lay 2-3-inches of asphalt on the walking path in Bicentennial Park. The rubberized finish coat will be put down in the spring.

Council met early in November due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The next meeting of council is scheduled for Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
