Minerva school board narrows search for new treasurer

FPS staff report

The Minerva Local Board of Education has narrowed its choices for a new treasurer down to five.

According to Minerva Local School Supt. Dr. Douglas Marrah, the board is expected to make a selection by the end of June. However, the board’s next regular meeting is Monday, June 15, at which time a selection could be made, he said.

The five finalists, vying for the treasurer’s job to be vacated Sept. 1 by Michael C. Pence, include:

Larry Pottorf, an accountant for Formtech Industries.
Robert Applebaum, a Central office intern with the Kenston Local School District.

Mary Ann Herschel, School treasurer internship with Austintown Local.
Jason Schatzel, an audit manager for the state of Ohio auditor’s office.
Carla Cooper, treasurer at Buckeye Career Center.

The current treasurer’s salary is $78,070. However, Supt. Marrah said the new treasurer’s salary and contract period will be negotiated.
