Light displays add cheer to holidays

FPS staff report

Area residents and businesses are lighting up the night with holiday decorations.

Thirteen Carrollton businesses are participating in the Animated Window Event, sponsored by the Carrollton Business and Retail Association and various individuals have lit up their homes with top-notch displays.

The following businesses in the downtown Carrollton area have animated window displays that are lit from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. through Dec. 31: Ashton’s 5 & 10 Cent Store, Ashton’s Holiday Shop, Betty Kaye Bakery, Bud’s Farm Toys, Bud’s Flowers, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Carroll County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Dona’s Deli, Custom Creations Jewelry, McCort’s Footwear (display created by Church of Christ), McFadden Insurance, Paperworks and More and Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home.

Business and Retail officials said each participating business paid a fee to participate and the money was used for a marketing campaign for Carrollton.

Ralph and Kim Dearth of 1035 Andora Rd., Carrollton, have an elaborate display of lights and blow-up displays. As a special treat, they are hosting Santa Claus on Saturday evenings from 6-8 p.m. The Dearth family said the lights will be lit Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and every night during the week of Christmas.

Anyone who has a light display they would like to have advertised in upcoming issues of the FPS can call the office at 330-627-5591 and ask for Carol or Leigh Ann, e-mail  fps44615@yahoo.com or dropthe information off at the office, located at 43 E. Main St. Carrollton.

The Carrollton Civic Club will conduct its annual decorating contest Dec. 15 from 6-10 p.m. The judging committee will canvas the area inside the village limits and visit those homes outside the village (within a five-mile radius) that have been pre-entered. Residents outside the village limits who would like to be included in the judging should call McFadden Insurance Agency at 330-627-2525 and leave their name and address.

The Civic Club will select the winners (each will receive a prize) and the winners will be announced in the Dec. 24 FPS.
