Officials at The Carroll County Health Department advocate the public health awareness of receiving immunizations on a timely schedule. The following list contains several of the more common myths pertaining to immunizations.
They are:
Myth: Vaccines for rare illnesses are unnecessary.
Fact: If immunization rates drop, diseases such as polio could become common threats again.
Myth: Adults don’t need vaccinations.
Fact: Both children and adults should adhere to an immunization schedule.
Myth: Vaccine side effects are more dangerous than the disease.
Fact: Vaccines can cause side effects, but usually these are minor and only last a few hours. Severe reactions are rare.
Myth: All information about vaccines on television and the internet is reliable.
Fact: Your health care provider is a much more reliable source for answers to questions and concerns about vaccines.
Myth: Vaccinations are unaffordable.
Fact: Free vaccines are provided for those in need.
Fact: Immunization is your best defense against deadly diseases.
H1N1 clinics continue to be planned by The Carroll County Health Department. Another H1N1 clinic is planned for December 3rd at The Days Inn, 1111 Canton Rd, NW, Carrollton in the lower level conference room. Times scheduled are 8 – 11 am, 1 – 4 pm, and 5 – 7 pm. Those adults 25 to 64 years of age with a chronic medical condition will be vaccinated. Pre-registration is available at www.odh.ohio.gov. One should bring their printed form containing their personal identification number with them to the clinic.
