Which streets do we repair?

By Bob Evans
FPS reporter

Malvern Village Council Monday night spent approximately one-half hour discussing which streets to repair.

Village Administrator Jim Bates presented council members with two estimates for filling cracks in some of the Village streets, both for $3,800 and for two different projects.

One would do a number of smaller streets, while the larger would do just one.

In advising council, Bates said, “I would rather to see the smaller streets done because it would feel like we have gotten something accomplished.”

Councilman Alan Artzner also suggested  looking into the paving of Citrus Rd., which all council members agreed is in very bad condition.

Council decided to table the matter until the next meeting so Bates could get an estimate on paving Citrus Rd.

In an unrelated matter, Councilwoman Angela Lambert read a letter from Ralph and Kathy Frase stating their displeasure with having a Beer Garden at the Dancing on the Bridge Festival near the Firehouse Grille.

“Dancing on the Bridge was started as a community event, which we also believe is a family orientated event. Surely you must remember there are church groups that set up booths for this event and we don’t really think they need a beer garden shoved in their faces.”

Mayor Michael McCort said in regards to the letter, “The Firehouse Grille did not apply for the liquor permit. The Malvern Community Development Board applied for the permit. I don’t know if this will ease their minds at all, but the Beer Garden will not be set up in what you call downtown. It will be set off the beaten path. It will set up down by the Firehouse and we are setting it up as far back off Reed St. as possible.
It will be in a roped-off area and people cannot leave with an open container.

All beer must be consumed inside the roped-off area. There will not be people walking the streets with open containers.”

In other business council:
- PASSED a motion to have Williams Concrete to do concrete work around two pavilions in the Village Park for $1,750.

- PASSED a motion to have Jim Hanlin paint and power wash the pavilions for $1,639. The $1,639 is the amount left from a Parks Grant the Village received.

- PAID the monthly bills in the amount of $213.74 in vendor invoices and $5,613 for payroll paid Aug. 7.

- HELD an executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss legal matters, (ordinances).

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept 2, at 7 p.m. in Village Hall.
