It’s cheaper to cut it yourself. Much cheaper.
Minerva Council raised the cost of cutting grass to $75 per hour at its May 26 meeting. It drops to $50 per hour for each hour, or partial hour after that. Previously, the village charged the actual cost of the workers doing the job. If not paid by the owner of the property, it becomes a lien added to the property’s taxes.
Cindy Lawson asked council if any policy had been established about driving golf carts in the village. She owns one that is equipped with lights and signals. Law Director Gary Willen said council had not passed legislation regarding golf carts, but that it is illegal to drive them on sidewalks. He suggested she contact Police Chief Robert First for more information.
Administrator David Harp commented that the cemeteries look the best they have in years, and he thanked village service department workers for their efforts there.
Harp said Dave Catlett has begun work on repairing the Village Hall roof.
Workman Industrial has started dismantling one of the clarifiers at the waste water treatment plant. The system will continue to run on the other clarifier until the first one is replaced and returned to service, then the second will be dismantled and replaced.
Harp said the backup electric generator required by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has been ordered.
Harp said concrete work on Carolyn Court and Knox Court probably will be included in the street projects this year. He is going to meet with a local contractor to get a quote for the work.
Harp now can put out for bids the Grant Street Rehabilitation Project after council passed the third reading of the ordinance. The specifications for the project were set up by the Ohio Bridge Corporation.
Councilwoman Marsha Bishop said she is planning a village-wide rummage sale for sometime in August.
Fred Shields asked council what is happening with the grants for the skate park and walking path. Harp said the contract was not received for the work until April 28. He will talk with the service department to see if they can help expedite the projects.
The next council meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on June 9. |
